Semester 1 2012- 2013
Dear Ms. Anderson,
This year has brought me my greatest writing pieces that I have ever created in my opinion. I think I have really developed my writing skills, especially my style, through what you have taught me. I’ve always had trouble finding my voice in my writing, either putting out too much or too little. I want my writing to be where you look at it, and know who wrote it. And I think I am on the road to doing that. From looking at my writing from something as recent as last year, I can definitely see my improvement. I love the interesting topics that you give us, because writing about if we should have dress code or not gets boring after a while. I love being able to research the topic and having tools like the computer available to us to make our writing as colorful and precise as possible. Now when I look at my writing I really am proud of it. Another thing I’ve noticed about my writing is that usually my rough rough draft makes no sense, and then my rough draft turns out to be my final. I don’t understand why I take such a huge step between those two.
Another thing about my writing is that i’m very self conscience about it when other people read it and it’s not completely finished. Even though I know it’s good, I don’t like getting feedback from it because i’m always afraid of what people will say. I never feel completely satisfied with it when people critique it when I think it’s perfect, I like writing it and only having my opinion about it, because that’s what I feel matters the most. But maybe in this coming semester I can take more advantage of KSH critique, and its probably for the best that I get a wide variety of feedback from people and what they think about it. Then I can really make my writing the best that it can be, without thinking that it’s never enough. I really should be more open to people reading my work as well. Without worrying about what people will say.
I tend to put a lot of my strong opinions into my writing as well. And I don’t want people to be offended by it, which is why I don’t want people to judge me by my writing. But since I have such a strong opinion about certain things, I love doing debates and stuff like that. Where you have to research your topic and defend it. I think I did great in the model UN Debate that we did in class. I enjoyed the challenging form of government that I had to defend and sees everyones other point of view. Well not their point of view, more of what they were assigned. Politics and government are really interesting to me, probably because I am good at debating and have strong opinions. I really hope we can go more in depth about it, because it seemed like most people enjoyed it for the most part, and it’s interesting to see everyone else’s point of views about certain subjects. I thought I did really well with it, and asked a lot of questions and listened carefully to people's speeches. I liked the model UN Debate more than the 2 on 2 debates that we did about corn. Maybe because it was on a completely different subject, but I still liked it more. I really hope we can do more debates in the future.
Sincerely,
Ryan Cormack
