Pre-Lab Questions
Post-Lab Questions
1) Calculate how many calories were transferred to the water by the marshmallow.
Calories = grams of water
Final temperature - Initial temperature
70-4
66 grams
2) Divide this number of calories by the grams of marshmallows that burned up to give you the number of calories per gram in a marshmallow.
66 divided by .8 = 82.5
3) Marshmallows actually contain about 3.33 calories/gram. Based on this, calculate what percent of the heat you lost to the air around the calorimeter.
6 degrees
4) Repeat steps 1-3 for a cheeto. Solve the ratio to figure out the actual calories per gram in a cheeto.
155.5 calories 42 calories per gram.
5) How close was your answer in #4 to the real value? (6cal/gram)
I was very far off, hopefully I can compare my work with my group mates to compare and figure out where I went wrong.
